About the author:

Professor Neeti Nair, a historian and professor at the University of Virginia, specialises in South Asian history. She teaches courses on topics including the Partition of the Indian subcontinent and blasphemy politics. Prof. Nair is the author of “Hurt Sentiments: Secularism and Belonging in South Asia” and “Changing Homelands: Hindu Politics and the Partition of India.” Additionally, she has edited two special issues of Asian Affairs, including “Ghosts from the Past? Assessing Recent Developments in Religious Freedom in South Asia” and “Citizenship, Belonging, and the Partition of India.” Her research has been supported by prestigious fellowships, and she serves as a non-residential Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington DC.

 

 

About the chair:

Dr. Mujibur Rehman, a faculty member at Jamia Millia Central University in New Delhi, specialises in identity politics and development politics, with a particular emphasis on the experiences of religious minorities. Notable among his prior publications are “Rise of Saffron Power: Reflections on Indian Politics” (2018) and “Communalism in Postcolonial India: Changing Colors” (2016). Dr. Rehman’s insightful commentary on contemporary issues frequently graces the pages of major Indian newspapers and magazines. His research contributions extend to projects hosted by esteemed institutions such as Princeton University, Columbia University, Sciences Po, University of York, and ICSSR. He completed his graduate studies at the University of Austin, Texas, USA; the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi. Presently, he is engaged in his forthcoming book project provisionally titled “Explaining the Muslim Mind.”
